Trail to Virginia City

We want to expand the Carson City section of the multi-use path and connect it with Virginia City. The path will likely run along Deer Run Road to Virginia City. We propose following a route to the east of existing V&T railroad, which now hosts tracks for the new Virginia & Truckee Railroad Company. It runs trains to Virginia City from a depot south of Highway 50 and mostly caters to visitors. There is potential for collaboration with the company as many cyclists would most likely be interested in riding the train
uphill to VC and biking back downhill.

We propose a unpaved single-track trail from Centennial Park in Carson City to Virginia City across BLM land. This is still in the early stages of planning but would be a great addition to the V&T Trail.

If the Carson River Canyon Trail from Centennial Park proves implausible, a possible temporary workaround and future primary alignment for the V&T Trail follows a trail beginning in the West at Centennial Park and links a trail that could follows the existing V&T alignment through the scenic Carson River Canyon. The exact route of the trail is yet to be determined as many private interests are involved in the area.

Once the alignment reaches Goldhill going North, it begins to follow paved roads including Homestead Rd, Occidental Grade/NV-341, and lettered streets in downtown Virginia City. Along the the way it passes historic mines. The trail terminates in Virginia City at the old V&T Depot, allowing users easy walkable access to the historic downtown district.
